Mini stila haul and McDs Monopoly

I just came back from McDs and TJ Hughes and I am a happy bunny. And of course I'll tell you why.

McDs is running this contest called McDs monopoly where you have to collect coupons, stick it on their monopoly board and try to win their prizes. The prizes include 500k pounds cash, Kodak cameras, a 300kpounds house in Regent street, preloaded visa cards, nokia phones, mini coopers..you get the idea. :) Anyway we spent alot of time sticking theses stickers on the monopoly board. Yes I know its a cheap thrill.

After that we walked to the T.J. Hughes nearby just for fun and I never expected to walk out so many goodies. The stuff I got were all from STILA. Yay! I am an avid fan of STILA and they were all so cheap so how can I resist?? I am going to make a point to take some pictures of my loot and post it on my blog. Maybe after I hand up my assignment this week. :) Among the stuff I got were...

- Stila pressed powder (6 pounds)
- pressed powder refill (4 pounds)
- Eyeshadow pans (all 3 pounds) :-
Kalo (lovely golden lime green)
Twig ( a dark brown)
Barefoot contessa (another brown)
Pewter ( dark greyish blue. I love this color! Have been wanting to get it for a long time so am happy to get it cheap :) )
Cloud (silvery beige. this is a lovely color)
Poppy ( a light sky blue)

Altogether the bill was 28pounds. I consider this quite an achievement because I got all that without burning a very big hole in my wallet. :) The only thing missing is an eyeshadow palette for the eyeshadow pans.

LOOK OF THE DAY

Those who know me well know that I feel most comfortable wearing a natural makeup look and I am always looking for a thousand ways to play around with natural nude makeup.
Leighton Meester does it so well here with her flawless skin and enough colour for a healthy glow. (Thanks jos for showing me this :) )
To recreate the look of the gorgeous Leighton Meester (Adapted from Luxholics):

Step 1: Prep skin with La mer eye cream and La mer moisturiser. Laura Mercier secret concealer in #2 under the eyes and then a touch of Chantecaille Just Skin tinted moisturiser (in the shade glow) for a sheer coverage and alternative to foundation on the forehead, T zone and chin. Cheeks are kept foundation free.

Step 2: A sheer dusting of Laura mercier loose powder all over the face.

Step 3: Curl lashes with mascara and then work the upper lashes with 2 coats of Diorshow Blackout mascara and then on the lower lashes with Yves Saint Laurent brown mascara for a softer look.

Step 4: On the brows, Lancome Le Crayon in Brun is used.

Step 5: MAC fluidline in Blacktrack is used to line the eyes. Liner is flicked slightly at the end and then smudged slightly at the bottom for a slight feline look. Although not stated, it does seem as if a shimmery nude color is washed on Leighton's lid. Try using either Stila Kitten eyeshadow paired with M.A.C sable.

Step 6: A light dusting of Chanel's bronzing powder Soleil Tan De Chanel in # 62 Terre Epice is used.

Step 7: Christian Dior Pro Cheeks Fard a Joues Blush # 455 is applied to the apples of the cheeks and also a touch on the bridge of the nose for a truly sunkissed glow.

Step 8: MAC lip pencil called Dervish, then softened slightly with a Q-tip and powdered over with Laura Mercier's translucent powder. Vincent Longo's lipstick in Rain Dance is applied on the entire lip and then blotted with a tissue for a stained, more natural look. A touch of lipglass in Chance Encounter is then applied on the lips for a glossy finish.

Final step: Christian Dior's Dior Skin Ultra Shimmering Powder in Rose Diamond 001 is then applied to the apples of her cheeks, a touch on the eyelids and a little on her cleavage for truly healthy-looking, glowing skin.

I hope you girls enjoy this. :)
I bought a lil..

Today I walked into Boots and I picked up some items and I am pleased to say that I am quite happy with everything I got considering the fact that I didn't actualy burn a hole in my wallet for them. The reason for me emphasizing that is because sometimes I tend to buy some items and end up being disappointed with them.

The first item I got was Barry M lip paint in 101.

I happen to really like this lipstick. However, I have to be very careful when I apply this. The reason is because:
I don't have a gorgeous tan and coupled with the fact that I'm really pale skinned it can wash out my lips thus giving me the concealer lips effect.
So today I put it to the test and I exfoliated my lips with a wet washcloth then dabbed this sparingly on the lips (its ridiculously pigmented!) and then layer it on top with my M.A.C pink fish lipbalm and the result is a lovely nude lip.

Its only about 5pounds in Boots and you can also get it at Superdrug so yes its cheap and in my opinion their lipsticks are comparable to M.A.C but for a fraction of the price.

The second item I picked up was Revlon's Colorstay foundation in Ivory. The reason I decided to pick it up yesterday was because I had a 2pound off voucher from Boots and that gave me a good excuse to pick this up. I had wanted to try it for a long time as I heard good reviews about this product and that it was a very good dupe for M.A.C studio fix foundation.

So I put it to the test this morning and I am happy to report that this did not turn orange on me, it was very smooth and moisturising and it looks really good on me. They also have this in the combo/oily skin range which I find to be more fluid in texture and less moisturising. Maybe I will pick up the other version just to test it out. Anyhow, I am really pleased with this foundation and it is only about 11pounds at Boots/Superdrug. So I definitely recommend this for an affordable drugstore foundation.

The other item I picked up was L'oreal Voluminous mascara. After hearing so many raves about this product I finally picked it up and I got this in the Carbon Black version. I have to say that this mascara is the best if not one of the best drugstore mascaras I have ever used. This mascara is very comparable with Max Factor's 2000 calorie mascara which I really like as well. With just one coat my lashes really did look decently longer and fatter and I really like the fact that this mascara is really black and glossy. My lashes are also left soft and not crunchy which is definitely a plus point. My only gripe is that I have to be very careful with the application or it can be clumpy. It costs about 7pounds at Boots/Superdrug.

Another product worth mentioning is the Prestige silk lipliner which I picked up together with the Tokyo Rose lipstick and since I have never used a lipliner before I can't give you a comparison. But I did use this yesterday and I am pleased to say that I am happy with it. What I did was I filled in my entire lip with this pencil and then I layered a coat of NARS Napoli lipstick on top and the effect was amazing. So I do see myself repurchasing this when I run out and at the rate I am going I think I will run out of it soon. I think this is about 4 pounds.

So yea that pretty much sums up my mini drug store haul for the weekend. I am interested to know of what are YOUR favourite drugstore makeup? Please leave a comment on the tagboard at the side. :)

Have a good weekend everyone.

Cochinapestosa featured on LipstickQueen.com

I just found out today that my review on Poppy King's Big Bang Illusion Gloss is actually featured on her official website. (Read it here)

It was a very pleasant surprise as I was not expecting that. So mucho gracias Ms. Poppy King for being so kind. I wish you continuing success in expanding the exclusive Lipstick Queen line. (p/s: does that call for more lippies? ;o))

To my readers, I will be doing a review on the Lipstick Queen Big Bang Lip gloss in the shade 'Creation' , the Saint Nude and the Saint Natural. Stay tuned!

I saw it, I loved it, I bought it

Before I start rambling about today's topic, I would like to draw your attention back to the previous post that I wrote. A few days ago I purchased some items from the M.A.C Hello Kitty collection. Basically heres the lowdown on what I think of the items.

M.A.C Pink fish TLC - This product is really mediocre in my opinion for a lip conditioner. Its not completely bad but it does lack the wow factor for the price I paid. The colour is okay as its a ver pale pink so its good if i want pastel pink lips. I have to give them 5 stars for the scent because its so yummy that I keep licking my lips. However, I also have to point out that the TLC goes on smoothly and seems to be very moisturising at first but the moisturising effect wore off after 15 minutes? For a lipbalm that costs me 11pounds I expected more than that. I would rather shell out 20pounds extra for my By Terry Baume de Rose which performs much better and conditions my lips the whole day without me having to touch up. The only downside for Baume de Rose is that it is not tinted pink like the pink fish.

[Ratings: 3/5]

M.A.C Beauty powder blush in Tippy - I have never owned or tried a M.A.C blush before so this is actually my very first blush from M.A.C and I must say that I am truly impressed and I love it very much. The pigmentation was good and very true to color, the powder was very finely milled, the shimmer was super fine and not big and chunky and it was very long lasting. Given that I have not worn pink blushes for a few years now, this blush has really been the stepping stone for me to venture into other pink blushes.

[Ratings: 5/5]

M.A.C Sweet strawberry lipglass = I loved this from the start when I tried it in store. The color is rich, creamy, moist, sticky but bearable and very pigmented. I only own 3 lipglasses from M.A.C (including this one. The other 2 are M.A.C revealing and nymphette) but this has to be my favourite. So yes once again M.A.C delivers te goods.

[Ratings - 5/5]

I have yet to put the Love rock mineralize blush to the test so I will do a review on it later on.

Okay I digress and now its back to the main post of the day. Most of you will know that I have been hunting high and low for this M.A.C beauty powder blush 'Stark Naked' which was an L.E item from last christmas. Because it was an L.E and I couldn't find it at any M.A.C store , I had to resort to eBay which I did and I finally won the auction yesterday. (Yay for eBay!)
I have not personally tested this in store but I have read many reviews and they all seem very promising. And because I have issues, I tend to get very excited over items that are L.E. regardless of whether they are good or not. This is apparently described as what NARS's infamous Super Orgasm should be minus the chunky gold flecks. Lets hope that this blush lives up to my expectations. :)

Ray Quinn wins Dancing on Ice

I was sitting on the couch watching my telly for a whole 2 hours praying and making numerous phonecalls into Dancing on ice to vote for Ray Quinn and I must say that my few quids spent in making the phone calls were definitely worth it. Yes I was being an idiot and called not once but about ten times just to get him to dance the Bolero and for him to win. So yes I am super happy that he won and I must say that he deserves every bit of it. Congratulations Raymond Quinn! :o)

Another thing I came across that I thought would be interesting to share with you are face charts. I have been colouring face charts for quite awhile now and I was looking for clean NARS, Stila and M.A.C face charts to print off the web when I came across some very beautifully done face charts.

I'll be back to fill in the details of what you can use to recreate the looks. For now its back to PLR! <3

M.A.C hello kitty and Grand duo haul and ramblings

Most of you by now would know that I am not a huge fan of M.A.C. M.A.C almost always comes as a secondary choice for me and I much prefer NARS because for me NARS always wins when it comes to quality, packaging, names....you get the drill. NARS comes out with a collection every season. One in spring/summer, another in autumn/winter and in december they sometimes launch a Holiday collection. A bonus point for NARS is that every item that is launched as part of a collection will join the others as a permanent item. Unlike the more notorious brand M.A.C which comes out with a new collection almost every month to woo its customers, their items are limited edition, hence they are of a very limited quantity, sometimes gets sold out on the same day and have customers go crazy flocking every possible M.A.C counter there is in the vicinity.

Just recently, M.A.C collaborated with Hello Kitty and launched a new makeup collection for spring. As expected, most items were sold out a few days after launching. I was lukewarm about the whole collection, the hello kitty pop art.. and did not bother to even go in store to check them out. If i'm not mistaken this collection was launched during the first week of March and due to my curiousity (of a cat) I hopped onto the bandwagon and got myself some goodies yesterday. Yes, I know I suck but I'm sorry I can't be helped!

M.A.C even started selling blow up dolls of Hello Kitty. Mind you, the hello Kitty is actually black in color and not the classic white Hello Kitty. Somehow, there is something quite wrong about Hello Kitty being black. Okay I admit I was a sucker for Hello Kitty when I was in elementary school but not anymore. I had a very nice and expensive Hello Kitty pencilbox and then I had some other Hello Kitty stationery, notebooks, pencils, erasers, files and even a nice little hand towel which I got from a friend who went to Tokyo. I have an obsession and I admit that I can be obsessed to a certain extent but I have my limits. And I know that my limit stops at Hello Kitty black blowup dolls.

The infamous Pink fish lip balm which I bought because I was convinced by my friend, Ms Steph T.

Sweet strawberry lipgloss. A nice blue based berry color. mmmm i like.

Tippy beauty blush. Blue based pink.

Lastly, M.A.C came up with a new collection of mineralize blushes. This is from the Grand duo mineralize blush collection( also a limited edition) and the color is Love Rock. It is a bright violet - pink and also happens to be my favourite color in the lot.

I have not bought/ worn pink blushes in a long long time as I have always stuck to peachy pink blushes which are virtually fool-proof and gives the right amount of glow without looking too made up. I might just start wearing pink again and see how it fares. Lets hope that these 2 pinky blushes will convert me.

Basically that sums up my loot for this weekend and I am still hunting for a M.A.C pro store to get my hands on the M.A.C pro blush in 'Cantaloupe'. Anyone knows how I can get it? Also on the hunt for M.A.C blush in 'Stark Naked' which happens to be another LE.

Have a great weekend everyone. :)

Ramblings

Lilash's before and after pictures.

Right now I am keeping a close eye on this particular product. I was initially contemplating as to whether or not I should purchase the third generation of Jan Marini's Marini lash but then I did abit of research and found out that they took out their most powerful ingredient from their latest serum and therefore I'm slightly doubtful as to whether or not it will be as effective. Enormous lash's second generation of lash serum has also taken out prostaglandin which is their major major active ingredient in eyelash growth. Although they have doubled the quantity for their serum and while keeping the price the same alot of people have been reporting that it does not work as well as their old formula.

My other option is this, Lilash which reportedly works very well so I am definitely buying it on eBay! The only thing that is deterring me from buying it is that the price changes everyday? I suppose this has something to do with the exchange rate. Therefore I'm waiting desperately for the price (in pounds) to drop down to its lowest before I snag this baby. How much is it you ask? Pretty steep! But taking into account the money that ladies spend on eyelash extensions and such its not a bad choice.

I have always been very tempted by eyelash extensions. A friend of mine recommended me this place in Bangsar which does really good eyelash extensions but it is undoubtly quite expensive. The downside of eyelash extensions is that you lose your own lashes in the process and yes your lashes do look truly glamorous but only for 3 months.

I can't say much about Enormous Lash because I have only used it for a week. I guess it takes time, you don't expect to see a miracle overnight!

Barristers are better than solicitors

On the one hand you have barristers- dashing, glamorous, obscenely intelligent and effortlessly classy. Daily they stride forth, fearless and proud, to fight tirelessly for justice, freedom and the underdog, while nobly robed in wig and gown, which may be archaic, yet remain oddly alluring. The pitiful masses can only gaze in admiration as counsel hoist aloft their verbal lances, and engage in their rhetorical joust, intent only on victory (and on getting the £50 fee for some shitty bail application).

And on the other side you have solicitors- squinty eyed, sallow skinned desk monkeys. Clothed in their cheap, sensible suits, boasting less charisma than a volume of the white book, and more often than not impotent. Essentially glorified secretaries, these bastards still for reasons unbeknown to any reasonable man receive sickeningly generous training contracts, before starting work on a salary which would give the average pupil a wet dream. But this is clearly only a comfort blanket, a pathetic attempt to numb the awe and envy we know they all feel for their glorious legal brethren at the Bar.

How true... ;)

Big Bang Illusion Theory
And no I'm not talking about the black hole or the Supernova. These are Lipstick Queen Poppy king's latest creation, the Big Bang Illusion Gloss.

Marketed as a plumping lip gloss minus the stinging effect on the lips. Poppy apparently uses the light reflecting theory by using micro fine shimmer particles in the gloss to blur the light hence making lips look fuller.

I'm not particularly fond of plumping lipglosses as I don't particularly need it. I also dislike the stinging sensation on the lips. I've read several reviews from people from our US counterparts who are lucky to be able to purchase it since Jan/Feb and apparently if you are looking for a gloss that really plumps your lips then you will be disappointed. However, this does not stop it from being a great gloss because unlike other lipglosses in the market, it is non sticky and yet it still delivers what it promises to do = luscious glossy lips. For girls who love plumping lippies, you can try mixing cayenne pepper into your lipglosses.

The glosses are .34oz for 18pounds (i think) which is pretty good for the amount you get. All housed in a pretty test tube with a small doe foot applicator.

Definitely looking forward to getting these babies! =)

Available at SpaceNK apothecary for 18pounds.

Was introduced to Dancing on Ice by my boy and im officially hooked to it thanks to the dishy Ray Quinn. The boy is going to be jealous! Enjoy this vid. :o)

Life of a lipstick queen

I've never really been much into lipsticks/lipgloss or any lip product for that matter. For the past 20 years of my life I have been living on nivea strawberry lipbalm ( i still use it even until today because it is excellent) and I try not to touch any other lip product.

When I was in my 'tweens', I was very keen to experiment with eye makeup. My weekly routine will be to check out the Red earth makeup at Esprit and I will always walk away with a few eyeshadow pots. During that time, Red Earth was considered a luxury makeup for me. It was fairly affordable for a student and much better quality than drugstore makeup such as Maybelline or Revlon. So Red Earth it was for me. I recall having a drawer full of Red Earth shadows. I have virtually all the colors of the rainbow. You name it, I have it. Being a young teenager, I was very interested in colorful eyes. I would use purple, green, blue, pinks, mauves and any color except for nude colors. Heck I even used blue and purple liners! Oh and not forgetting the gold glitter mascaras?! Heck even my face powder was iridescent! I must have scared the bejeezus of all the boys! =(

As I grew older I wore less and less makeup. Eye makeup to be precise. Till today, I wear very minimal/ no eyeshadows. My makeup must haves are mascara, a cream blush and a khol pencil. If I have the time I will dust on some powder to keep my face shine free. I'm very simple when it comes to make up. However, I still do love eye makeup but I only reserve that for a special night out.

Keeping your makeup simple also means that you can wear a stronger lip and vice versa. Always focus on one feature and keep the rest muted. If you want to wear a strong lip then keep your eye makeup simple for a sophisticated look. On the other hand, if you are wearing a strong eye a soft nude lip will keep the look balanced.

My personal favourite is nice rosy healthy cheeks and lashings of mascara. By keeping my makeup to the bare minimal I can afford to wear a stronger lip. Since then, I have broken out of my shell and tried several lip products and since then I have never looked back. First it began with the lipgloss and now I am even wearing lipstick.

My favourite lip products come from Chantecaille, NARS and Lipstick Queen.

But the real star of the lot today is really Lipstick Queen, my latest obsession.

Created by non other than the ingenious Poppy King whose obsession with lipsticks started at seven. Tnanks to her obsession, lipstick whores like us can indulge in Lipstick Queen's divine lip products.

Heck even the names are funky. The Saint being 10% pigmented and the Sinner being 90% pigmented. Both lipsticks do not contain powder but a rubber pigment so will not dry out your lips. My personal favourite is the Saint Rose and Sinner Rose.

My other favourite is this Medieval tinted lip balm which reminds me very much of Benetint. The only difference is that this lip stain puts Benetint to shame. The color payoff is excellent and it 'looks like your lips but better'. It gives a very natural cherry red stain to the lips and doubles off as a lipbalm.

The Oxymoron matte gloss for lips and cheeks. One look at it and it reminds me of Stila's convertible color. However, the texture is very different compared to Stila's. This one is a gloss so it glides on easier.

Me is waiting to get my greedy hands on Lipstick Queen! <3>

For months I have been having writer's block but now I have so many things to blog about. Many many many things I don't quite know where to begin. Emo-ing and very moody lately. Watch this space.
Unhappy

I am not happy.

I had a mini haul today of lippies but still I feel indifferent about it. What is wrong with me?? Im usually easily satisfied with a little retail therapy!!

I attribute this to :

1) Stupid exams.
2) Missing someone.
3) Misc personal problems.

I need an antidote which spells J.A on it. Period.

Just a little update on all things shallow

I am done for the week after a grueling session of civil advocacy on Monday and conferencing on Tuesday. My next exam will be on wednesday next week (criminal adv) , thursday ( negotiation) and opinion writing and drafting on friday. Next week will undoubtly be more grueling than this week. I bummed for the rest of the day yesterday after my exams and I realised that I much rather do some studying than doing nothing at all. Believe or not its not entirely fun to be doing nothing at all. Bleh.

The people living in the UK will realised that there is significant change in the weather since the last 2-3 weeks. The weather is definitely much warmer now and this is when the nightmare starts.

1) Exams

2) Flies. Arghhh just 2 days ago I caught a fly in my room (only after opening my window for 5 mins the stupid fly flew in) with the help of a friend. Today i opened my window for less than 1 min and another fly flew in again. I vow not to open my window anymore.

Now lets move on to the more shallow things in life.

I'm sure most girls will agree with me that eyelashes are really important. Eyelashes are so important as frames for your eyes.

I think I have reasonably nice eyes. Their not the size of dinner plates (although I wish they were larger) but I am quite happy with them. I have double eyelids but their not very in set at all. Their the very typical lids that most chinese girls have. I'm happy that I don't have monolids because monolids are much more difficult to work with when it comes to eye makeup. Depending on how you see it my eyes have some plus and minus points.

Pros
Technically I don't need that much eye makeup for my eyes to look nice. In fact, the less the better. Too much eyeshadow and I will look like some 'wayang creature'. So less is definitely more for me.

Cons
I lose out when it comes to experimenting with eyeshadows because I look better without them.

Hmmm anyway I digress. What I wanted to rant about is the Enormous Lash serum that I have purchased on ebay yesterday. Am still waiting for it to arrive before I put it to the test.

Enormous Lash. One of the many brands of eyelash growth serums in the market. Apparently a doppelganger of jan marini lash or lilash. I'm not particularly happy with my lashes and I don't wear eyelash extensions which I am not good at/don't look very good on me. Therefore, I have resorted to giving this a try as many people have tried it with great results. It'll be another few days till I get my item and another few weeks before I update on my progress so bear with me! If at all this doesn't work...well... the $$$ could have very well be spent on fuel and brought me to the department store to get my YSL fauxcils mascara!!

Today I had the sudden urge to eat spagetthi so I made some very nice spagetthi bolognese. I don't usually spend so much time cooking nice meals especially when I am cooking for myself. Unless jordan is here then I have no choice but to cook something decent because I have to feed him. I can't ask him to eat instant noodles like me because firstly i feel like a lazy girlfriend and secondly its a shame because YS cooks nice dishes for him everyday. wth. =P

Because today I was supposed to go out for dinner but I pulled out at the last minute due to my mountainous workload and a skeleton argument that I have to prepare for my finals on Monday, I decided to cook something extra special. No pictures of the food sorry because I was too hungry and I ate up all the food. Plus the fact that I lost my camera means I can't take pics anyway.

I hate exams this time of the year when the weather is getting warmer( which also means that spring is coming and then summer..bla bla bla). I had a 6 hour crown court trial yesterday which was uber fun ( i love examination in chief and cross examination of witnesses..imagine squeezing all the juice out of a le-mon) but the sun was shining and we had to stay indoors pretending to be witnesses, shooting witnesses and being made into barrister pies by Richard Whiting a.k.a Sweeney Todd of Fleet Street. It also doesn't help that I can't go out today because I have to finish my skeleton argument which is taking me ages because I have been procrastinating and watching youtube and more procrastinating and blogging and playing my dslite and procrastinating and playing my wii.

To make matters worse I won't be seeing jordan for the next 3 weeks because of my exams and because he has important discussions during the weekends with his groupmates for a project that their working on. It sucks. Because I have already gotten used to seeing him every week and Friday's always the day when we will either go out for dinner or stay indoors and I'll cook him a nice meal and sometimes we'll go to the 24hr Sainsburys to grocery shop. Come back and play some more Wii. This week will be a very quiet week for me and honestly I am not used to it. To think that I have to do this for the next 3 weeks is really killing me. I think its very much of the fact that I can't get used to being alone anymore. I've become a very dependant person.

I am lemming for lipstick queen's saint and sinner lippies and oxymoron...must wait till next month cos im super super broke. huhu.
